Exhibition in Gembloux
6 to 16 May 2005
This is our second exhibition in Belgium this year after a very successful exhibition in January at the Andenne Town Hall. The Gembloux "Horse Art" exhibition was hosted by the Rector of the Faculty of agronomics of Gembloux (Belgium), Professor André Théwis The guest of honnour during the "Horse Art" exhibition preview on 6th May was H.R.H. the Prince Laurent of Belgium, founder of the Prince Laurent Fondation for the welfare of domestic and wild animals.
To mark the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the twinning programme between the city of Gembloux and the island of Skyros, Greece, the "Horse Art" exhibition presented a variety of works - paintings, sculptures, art pictures and a poem - which were created to promote an innovative biodiversity-related project for the preservation of the endangered "Skyros horse".
More than twenty talented artists from all over the world took part in the "Skyros horse" exhibition: Pascale BOUCHOLZER, Gérald BUTHAUD, Christine CORNET, Christine DARBOUX, Yves DONNAY, Francis FELIX, Laurent FRISON, Luc GAZON, Françoise GRESSE, Christiane JAVAUX, Makis KONSTANDELAKIS, Michael LAWRENCE, Philippe MEYRIER, Audrey MIGEOTTE, Claudine MORSA, Georges PENNAS, Martine PICARD-HELARY, Jean SPIROUX-MATHIEU, Aliki Alexandra STEEN, Ariane THONON.
For most art works presented on the "Horse Art" exhibition, visitors had the opportunity to buy either the original work, or high quality reproductions - greeting cards, mounted A4 size reproductions and posters. By buying an original work or art or its reproduction, visitors supported the SILVA Project for the preservation and breeding of this unique and rare breed.
The itinerant "Horse Art" exhibition will now travel to Greece, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of the Greek artists who support this commendable cause. The first exhibition in Greece will be held on the island of Skyros, from the 9th to the 17th of July. The second exhibition will be held in Athens from the 13th to the 20th of September. The third exhibition will be held in Corfu from the 25th of September to the 10th of October.
